Ludovica, having survived a childhood trauma, lives with a persistent fear of open spaces, using a large black umbrella as a shield. After her sister moves to Angola, Ludovica joins her, unaware of the impending revolution. As riots erupt in Luanda, she seals herself inside her apartment, choosing complete isolation. Her life becomes one of observation from afar, grappling with memory, forgetfulness, and the human need for solitude amidst a world that intrudes. The novel explores the tension between the desire to forget and the urge to remember everything.
