In the spring of 196 BC, six contemporaries are transferred to Carthage along with their Spanish fellow soldiers. The city, large and comfortable by ancient standards, offers no peace for these newcomers. Almost immediately, the friends find themselves embroiled in local intrigues, navigating a complex web of Carthaginian Phoenicians, Rhodian Greeks, and Egyptians. However, their knowledge and experience gained in the ancient world enable them not only to survive but also to honorably complete their employer's challenging assignment. Life in Carthage is far from quiet, as the city seethes with the clashing interests of opposing oligarchic factions.
