Eugène Atget, 2016
Eugène Atget, a flâneur and photographer, was captivated by the streets of Paris. Initially supplying studies for artists, he became engrossed in documenting the city and its environs. His work focused on architecture, landscapes, and artifacts, offering a unique portrait of urban life. Though not widely recognized during his lifetime, Atget's unique fusion of mimesis and mystery later attracted the attention of the Dada and Surrealist avant-garde. This TASCHEN edition presents approximately 500 photographs, celebrating his keen eye for the urban environment and evoking a bygone Paris.
