This volume features "Belshazzar," the final novel by Sir Henry Rider Haggard, completed shortly before his death and published posthumously. It tells the story of Ramose, the son of an Egyptian Pharaoh and a Greek woman, who transitions from a life of privilege to one of adventure. His journey culminates in the fall of Babylon to the Persian Empire under Cyrus. The collection also includes "Smith and the Pharaohs," a series of short stories. The title story follows a young Egyptologist who finds himself locked in the Cairo Museum overnight, dreaming of a trial by ancient Egyptian royalty.
