Two years after the Eclipse, the Black Swordsman Guts and his companion Puck arrive in a desolate village. The inhabitants are suffering from attacks by creatures resembling elves, which turn out to be monstrous insects devouring people and livestock. Guts rescues a girl named Jill, who tells him about the Misty Valley, the source of the threat. Soon, the Queen of the Swarm appears, whom Jill recognizes as her missing friend Rosina.
