The year is 1943. The Red Army is advancing, and the country's industry is working at its limit to produce military goods. The Kuznetsk Metallurgical Plant becomes the target of a serious provocation by the Abwehr. Soviet counterintelligence learns of the enemy's plans and dispatches SMERSH Senior Lieutenant Semyon Goryunov to the plant. He succeeds in infiltrating a sabotage group, but identifying its leader proves difficult, as agents do not know the masterminds by sight. Realizing that only days remain before the planned operation, Goryunov devises a cunning plan.
