For centuries, intellectuals have sought to establish principles of justice based on the belief that humans are born as a "blank slate." Many authors actively challenge the notion of innate human traits, fearing that differences in people could justify discrimination and racism. If humans are products of biology, then free will might be an illusion, and life devoid of ultimate meaning.
