This book recounts the true story of the World War II evacuation depicted in Christopher Nolan's film Dunkirk. In May 1940, Allied forces were pushed back to Dunkirk, facing overwhelming Nazi strength. Prime Minister Winston Churchill initiated an evacuation, initially expecting to save only a fraction of the men stranded on the beach. However, a massive civilian effort, alongside the Royal Navy, saw nearly the entire army ferried back to England within a week.
