Hercule Poirot receives a letter from an elderly, wealthy spinster, Miss Emily Arundell, who is in distress but vague about her troubles. The letter was dated two months prior, prompting Poirot and Captain Hastings to visit her immediately. Upon arrival, they discover Miss Arundell has died of apparent natural causes. However, her devoted terrier, Bob, and soon Poirot himself, suspect foul play.
