This book reconstructs the theological genealogy of the concept of persona, a cornerstone of European culture. The author examines the semantic evolution of this term, which in Russian is expressed by the triad of categories: "personality," "face," and "hypostasis." The study begins with pre-Christian semantics and delves into discussions on persona and hypostasis within Eastern and Western Christology and Trinitarian theology from the 2nd to 6th centuries, spanning from Tertullian to Boethius. It offers Russian readers insight into the centuries-long tradition of contemplating divine persons or hypostases, which laid the groundwork for the concept of personality that extends far beyond theology into various academic disciplines and cultural spheres.
