The author posits that exhibitions largely define the character of the modern museum. Historically, they not only preceded the first museums but also contributed to their emergence. Early exhibitions reflected the 18th-century view of material objects as sources of knowledge. In the 19th century, the significance of exhibitions, particularly world fairs, was driven by major powers' desire to assert their primacy in industrial development and art. Today, the popularity of exhibitions is fueled by the "visual turn" and the prioritization of visual information dissemination, alongside a new model of artistic life based on global communication. However, the information age is shifting exhibitions from educational purposes towards media functions.
