Kay Nielsen, 2023
Created in the late 1910s, Kay Nielsen's illustrations for "A Thousand and One Nights" are considered masterpieces of early 20th-century art. These images, rich with deep blues, reds, and gold leaf, capture the magic of the legendary Indo-Persian and Arabic folktales. Though never published during Nielsen's lifetime due to post-WWI financial constraints, these spectacular pen, ink, and watercolor works remained unseen for decades. Rescued from obscurity after Nielsen's death, they are now preserved in major art collections.
