On August 6, 1945, nuclear weapons were used for the first time in human history when an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Over one hundred thousand people died, and hundreds of thousands suffered injuries and radiation sickness. A year later, The New Yorker dedicated an entire issue to John Hersey's report, which traced the experiences of six survivors before, during, and after the explosion. In 1985, Hersey wrote an article that became the fifth chapter of "Hiroshima," detailing the subsequent lives of the six main characters. Hersey meticulously describes the embodiment of a multi-generational nightmare that continues to haunt us.
