This work recounts the life of the Fariyaq, the alter ego of Ahmad Faris al-Shidyaq, a significant figure in modern Arab intellectual history. The narrative follows his travels from Lebanon to Egypt, Malta, Tunis, England, and France. Through his experiences, al-Shidyaq explores intellectual and social issues of his era, including critiques of religious and secular establishments, freedom of conscience, women's rights, and cultural comparisons between Europe and the Middle East. The book also celebrates the classical Arabic language.
