"Lucifer" is the first part of a trilogy of tragedies by Dutch playwright Joost van den Vondel, written in the 17th century. The play explores themes of fall and the struggle between good and evil through the character of the fallen angel. Vondel creates a deep psychological portrait of the characters, examining the nature of evil and the pursuit of freedom, as well as the consequences of rebellion against divine order. Vondel's "Lucifer" significantly influenced the work of John Milton, particularly his epic poem "Paradise Lost".
