Until the mid-20th century, the Maldives remained an unexplored territory for European archaeologists. Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl undertook an expedition to the Gaaf Ganu atoll, where he discovered the ruins of a stepped pyramid oriented towards the sun and adorned with solar symbols. The book investigates the origin of this structure, its builders, and the island's ancient inhabitants. Heyerdahl also examined burial mounds, finding eastward-oriented foundations and sculptures of seafarers. These findings align with the theory of a seafaring civilization from Sri Lanka that influenced South America and Easter Island.
