Sergei Korolev, a distinguished scientist and talented engineer, played a pivotal role in establishing the Russian space industry. His career began with designing aircraft and gliders, but his fascination with rocket engines opened a new field where he rapidly rose to leadership. Korolev assembled a team of engineers to develop the world's first intercontinental ballistic missile, the R-7. This rocket enabled the launch of the first Earth satellite and, after modifications, the first human into space.
