Мода последних двух столетий демонстрирует увлечение образами животных, проявляющееся в различных формах: от карикатур с модницами, превращающимися в насекомых, до использования чучел птиц в качестве головных уборов и живых гепардов как аксессуаров. Данная монография исследует всплеск зооморфной образности в моде второй половины XIX века. Автор анализирует причины этого явления, его связь с идеями Чарльза Дарвина и то, как выбор зооморфных нарядов отражает представления носителей о себе и природе. Также рассматривается переосмысление викторианского наследия современными дизайнерами, такими как Эльза Скьяпарелли и Александр Маккуин.

Fashion over the past two centuries has shown a fascination with animal imagery, manifesting in various forms: from caricatures of fashionistas transforming into insects to the use of taxidermied birds as hat decorations and live cheetahs as ultra-fashionable accessories. This monograph examines the surge of zoomorphic imagery in fashion during the latter half of the 19th century. The author analyzes the reasons behind this phenomenon, its connection to Charles Darwin's ideas, and how the choice of zoomorphic attire reflects wearers' perceptions of themselves and nature. It also explores the reinterpretation of Victorian heritage by contemporary designers like Elsa Schiaparelli and Alexander McQueen.
