Старый леший мечтает об отпуске и решает доверить управление лесом своему внуку Бору. Несмотря на то, что Бор вырос в городе, леший уверен, что с подробной инструкцией внук справится с лесом и его обитателями. Однако, когда леший пишет книгу для Бора, он выбирает безответственных хранителей для неё. Зайцы, особенно Клюква, постоянно придумывают что-то новое, испытывая терпение даже у рассудительного ёжика Лаврика. Лаврик пытается помочь Бору, но находит лишь последний листок с описанием таинственного обряда. Бору предстоит разобраться, как понять голос леса, в то время как вокруг волки, капризный кот Базилик, нападение пилильщиков на Мудрую берёзу, ошибочные диагнозы доктора Суслика и множество хлопот с кукушкой.

An old leshy dreams of a vacation and decides to entrust the management of the forest to his grandson, Bor. Despite Bor growing up in the city, the leshy believes that with detailed instructions, his grandson will manage the forest and its inhabitants. However, when writing the book for Bor, the leshy chooses irresponsible guardians for it. The hares, especially Klyukva, are constantly coming up with new ideas, testing the patience of even the sensible hedgehog Lavrik. Lavrik tries to help Bor but finds only a fragment describing a mysterious initiation rite. Bor must figure out how to understand the voice of the forest, while wolves surround him, the capricious cat Bazil acts up, the Wise Birch is attacked by sawflies, Doctor Suslik makes incorrect diagnoses, and there are many troubles with the cuckoo.
