This collection features two works by Joseph Conrad. "The Nigger of the Narcissus" is a maritime novel centered on a merchant ship returning to Britain, its crew, and the character of James Wait. It explores themes of betrayal, storms, idleness, and diligence. "The Shadow-Line" tells the story of a young Polish merchant marine officer who unexpectedly decides to leave his post in Southeast Asia. He is then offered command of a ship whose captain died at sea, with the task of sailing it to its home port in Singapore, presenting him with significant challenges.
