Ryan Shay, captain of the Chicago Devils NBA team, needs to improve his public image. His General Manager views him as an unapproachable lone wolf lacking work-life balance. To counter this, Ryan proposes a fake relationship with his sister's best friend, Indy Ivers, who has recently moved into his apartment. Indy agrees to be his fake girlfriend for an upcoming wedding where her ex-boyfriend will be present, seeing him as a desirable date. As they spend more time together, the lines between their pretend romance and genuine feelings begin to blur, complicating their arrangement.
