The protagonist's earliest memory is of a fog teeming with monsters that leave her unharmed. She has no recollection of her identity or how she arrived. While some view her as a witch to be burned, others offer protection. The king's advisor dispatches her to Nergaard Castle as a spy to monitor a sorcerer. She must uncover the true allegiances of those around her and her own connection to unfolding events.
