This collection marks Bei Dao's first new work in nearly fifteen years, presenting his first long poem and considered his magnum opus. It represents the artistic culmination of a lifetime dedicated to language's renewal and reinvention. The poem journeys through the divergent paths of the poet's life, from his early years in Beijing and rural construction sites during the Cultural Revolution to his experiences of exile across six countries and his current life in California.
