In the near future, humanity is stripped of its freedom of choice, living under the constant fear of beings called Gods. The Earth is divided into zones where experiments are conducted to cultivate "souls" for the Gods. Alana believed the Gods were the ultimate evil until one of them revealed the possibility of life beyond the relative safety of the Zone. Nord, who had grown accustomed to calling the remnants of humanity "Cattle," finds himself in their place. They are soon to discover that not everything is subject to the will of the Gods.
