The inhabitants of the city of Ribovski are known for their wealth and vanity. It is here that the protagonist, Terry, and his twin brother Edward were born. Their childhood was spent in luxury, but one day a plane crash shattered their world. Terry was the sole survivor of his family. In an attempt to forget, he began gambling and lost his entire inheritance. Finding himself in poverty, he was sent to the city of Alegria, known for its grim reputation.
