J.R.R. Tolkien - 2008 - History of Middle-Earth
This volume is the first of a two-part set featuring the early myths and legends that inspired J.R.R. Tolkien's epic "The Silmarillion". "The Book of Lost Tales" marks the genesis of the concepts for Middle-earth and Valinor, presenting the initial versions of these foundational myths. The narratives are framed by the story of a mariner named Eriol who journeys to a mystical island inhabited by Elves. From them, he learns the ancient history known as the "Lost Tales of Elfinesse". These tales recount the earliest accounts of the Gods, Elves, Dwarves, Balrogs, and Orcs, alongside details of the Silmarils, the Two Trees of Valinor, and the cosmology of Tolkien's invented world.
