In the world of Dalain, divided into squares, humans struggle for survival. This world was created by the Creator for the Many-Armed God, a monster from a poisonous pool who hates humans. The expansion of land reduces the monster's living space. The Creator himself does not intervene, leaving humans to the mercy of the monster. However, once per generation, a chosen one appears who can defeat the Many-Armed God, though none have succeeded yet. The novel tells the story of young Shooran, who is given this role.
