В мире Далайна, созданном Творцом, суша разделена на квадраты, пригодные лишь для выживания людей. Этот мир находится в бассейне ядовитой слизи, где обитает многорукое чудовище, ненавидящее человечество. Расширение территорий людьми сокращает жизненное пространство монстра. Творец создал Далайн, чтобы отвлечь чудовище от борьбы с ним. Человек в этом мире обречён стать жертвой, но раз в поколение появляется избранный, способный одолеть монстра, хотя никому это ещё не удавалось. Роман рассказывает о юном Шооране, которому выпала роль избранника.

In the world of Dalain, conceived by its Creator, land is divided into squares barely suitable for human survival. This world exists within a basin of poisonous slime, inhabited by a multi-limbed monster that despises humanity. As humans expand their territories, they diminish the monster's living space. The Creator designed Dalain to distract the monster from their own conflict. Humans in this world are destined to be victims, yet once per generation, a chosen one emerges with the potential to defeat the monster, though none have succeeded thus far. The novel follows young Shooran, who takes on this destined role.
