In 1986, the head of the Swart family makes a promise to his dying wife: their servant Salomea will be granted the house she lives in as a reward for her long service. This conversation is quickly forgotten by most after the funeral, remembered only by a chance witness, Amor, the youngest Swart daughter. Decades pass, generations change, and the family slowly disintegrates, leaving the question of whether this long-ago promise will ever be fulfilled.
