Marco Polo, 2012
Marco Polo, a Venetian traveler of the 13th century, embarked on a 25-year journey to the Orient. He spent 17 years at the court of Kublai Khan, documenting his experiences. Imprisoned by the Genoese, Polo dictated his accounts to a fellow prisoner, Rustichello. This resulted in a seminal work detailing the geography, customs, and political systems of the Near East and Asia.
