This science fiction novel depicts a world devastated by a plague that wiped out most of the male population. The new society adapts, shifting the balance in favor of women and discarding old conventions. Among the few survivors descending into savagery, a group of women leaves the ruins of London to start anew. They establish a communal agrarian outpost but face the challenge of surviving their first winter, as most lack the necessary skills.
