The stories in this book are based on real events and tell about devout women and ascetics. The narrative focuses on the Petrina sisters (Anisya, Matrona, and Agafya), known as "The Three-Candle Woman," and Pelageya Ryazanskaya, also known as "Polyushka." During times of persecution against the Church and the closure of its temples, these women, along with other spiritual guides, sustained faith among the people. Later, when the persecution ceased, they shared their spiritual experiences.
