Wit Lancaster, cold and handsome heir to a private school, storms into the protagonist's life. His presence evokes a mix of fear, respect, hatred, and an inexplicable desire. When Wit is injured, the protagonist, against her better judgment, decides to help him, only to become entangled in his world.
He takes control of her, then leaves her alone, taking her diary. Now Wit knows all her secrets and threatens to expose them. To avert disaster, the protagonist makes a deal with the devil, allowing Wit to ruin her away from prying eyes.
