Set in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1970s, the story follows Kin Stuart, a seemingly ordinary IT professional struggling with his marriage and relationship with his teenage daughter. His current life starkly contrasts with his past as an operative for the Temporal Deformation Bureau, a secret organization combating crimes across time. Stranded in the 20th century after a failed mission, Kin hides his history until a retrieval team arrives from 2142. He must return to a future where he was only absent for weeks, facing a fiancée he cannot recall. However, the repercussions of his temporal displacement threaten his daughter's life and the very fabric of history.
