In the 1920s, the USSR considered establishing a Jewish autonomy in Crimea based on American Jewish communes. This project, named 'Crimean California,' saw some communes established in the northern part of the peninsula. The idea was revisited after World War II but never fully realized. This book explores the reasons behind its failure, including the role of Joseph Stalin and other contributing factors that impacted the dream of a Jewish homeland in Crimea. The author traces how seemingly distant events in Soviet history might have influenced the realization of this aspiration.
