The articles by I.L. Andronikov included in this collection were first published in 1949. Initially, the book contained only two parts: "Portrait" and "The Riddle of N.F.I.". Subsequent reissues expanded the content. However, for the past twenty years, the works of this prominent researcher of M.Y. Lermontov's oeuvre have not been printed for a child and youth audience. The 200th anniversary of M.Y. Lermontov became an occasion for a new edition, supplemented with materials and illustrations from leading museums and libraries in the country. The events described in the book date back to the 1930s. The deciphering of initials and the search for the portrait were first published in 1938 and 1947. The author repeatedly shared these stories at his literary concerts and appeared with them on radio and television. A documentary film based on the novella "The Riddle of N.F.I." was released in 1959. Irakliy Andronikov's narratives remain engaging reading for those who appreciate their native language, are curious, and respect the literary heritage of their homeland, as well as for admirers of the poetry of Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov.
