Это чувство удивления и восторга побуждает меня поделиться с вами красотой и богатством нашей Родины!» — размышлял в предисловии к одной из своих книг выдающийся детский писатель, натуралист и неутомимый путешественник Геннадий Яковлевич Снегирёв (1933—2004).
До того, как стать всемирно известным писателем, Геннадий Яковлевич испытал множество профессий, связанных с изучением и наблюдением за животными. Он был опытным звероловом, проницательным ихтиологом, заботливым смотрителем зоопарка, внимательным орнитологом… Он бороздил просторы Тихого океана в качестве матроса, участвовал в опасных и захватывающих экспедициях, бродил по Восточной Сибири с геологами, был искусным рыбоводом и смелым охотником. Даже сам Геннадий Яковлевич с трудом мог вспомнить все свои маршруты!
Он знал все заповедники России, тайгу и тундру, пустыню и горы, моря и реки как свои пять пальцев. Именно эти незабываемые открытия и яркие впечатления легли в основу его чудесных рассказов для детей, которые покоряют сердца юных читателей и сегодня.

Before becoming a globally celebrated author, Gennady Yakovlevich experienced a multitude of professions connected to the study and observation of animals. He was a skilled trapper, a perceptive ichthyologist, a caring zookeeper, and an attentive ornithologist… He sailed the Pacific Ocean as a seaman, participated in thrilling and dangerous expeditions, roamed Eastern Siberia with geologists, was a skilled fish farmer, and a courageous hunter. Even Gennady Yakovlevich himself would struggle to recall all his routes!
He knew all of Russia's nature reserves, the taiga and tundra, the desert and mountains, the seas and rivers intimately. These unforgettable discoveries and vivid impressions formed the basis of his wonderful stories for children, which continue to captivate young readers today.
